A 29 year old man named Mark Duggan was shot dead by a police officer at 6:15 pm on Thursday 4th August. This lead to a peaceful protest on Saturday 6th August it sparked unrest and by the end of the night Tottenham was ablaze, with cars and shops set on fire and looters running free. Mr Duggan was a passenger in a minicab and was shot after an apparent exchange of fire but the circumstances of the killing remain unclear. The violence started as bottles are thrown at two patrol cars close to the police station.
While on the other hand rioters saw the killing of Mr Duggan as the police abuse of power. Policing is seen as an inportant factor as to why the riots happened. The rioters called the poilcemen 'gang' saying that the officers enforce laws they themselves don't keep.
In conclusion its of the opinion the police officers are guilty of racism and this probably lead to the London riots.
